Metro Travel Training Program
(part of ADA Services)

Transfer Point
Often trainees need to transfer to another bus,
so trainers work to make sure there are safe crossings, recognizable intersection and close
bus stop

.

Moving Ahead  Since 2006, the Travel Training program has graduated nearly 1000 trainees and over 1400 destinations throughout the region through one-on-one travel training.

Travel Pouch -  Every trainee receives a travel pouch that contains their travel schedule, Reduced Fare Permit issued by Metro, and room for Metro passes and other bus or train schedules. Sometimes trainees can also carry note cards to show to drivers.

Travel trainees receives two free monthly passes for participating in the program

Feld Miller - Miller drove a Metro Bus for many years, but decided to join the travel training program instead of retirement. "It's a great job," he says. "Everyday you get to help people."

Trainers will work with flashcards or drive by locations multiple time to make sure trainees recognize important transfer points or don't get on the wrong bus

Metro Travel Training Program (part of ADA Services)

Metro Transit St. Louis's Travel Training Program, part of ADA Services, provides one-on-one individual transit travel training for senior and people with disabilities. The program helps individuals use the transit system independently to access employment, school, medical care and social support throughout the region.

Mike McDermott

Mike was brought on to create and implement the Travel Training program in 2006. He has twenty years experience in special education and says that the effectiveness of his program is due to employing special educational strategies, specialized towards individual learning abilities, to help trainees retain the lessons

If you or someone you know might benefit from travel training, please call 314-982-1510. Training is free for anyone who qualifies for Metro's Reduced Fare Permit.

The Travel Training program receives referrals from many sources, including Call-A-Ride and social service organizations throughout the region, including Illinois
